Raw truth? Theres no one size fits all approach to building a healthier, stronger and more resilient body. We’re all different which is the beauty in our individual journeys. Different body types, different shapes, different muscle fibers, different lifestyles. The most important aspect above all is being consistent and having balance.
Let’s think about our health journeys like a puzzle. With different pieces needing to come together to be complete and whole. What are the pieces to the puzzle? In no particular order; Strength Training, Conditioning, Nutrition, Flexibility/Stretching, Sleep/Recovery, Mindset & Accountability/Support.

Which of these pieces is your strongest? Your weakest? Which piece are you missing completely?
Our “Power Trio” is based on Strength Training, Hot Yoga & Conditioning. We don’t believe in ‘burning out’ we believe in ‘building up’.
Strength Training: Builds the foundation and the backbone for long-term health and movement.
Hot Yoga: Restoring balance and mindset
Conditioning: Unlocks energy and cardiovascular health. Power conditioning (zone 3,4,5) & Light conditioning (zone 1 + 2 ex. brisk walk)
Everyone benefits from strength training. It is hands down the backbone of long-term health and quality movement. Who doesn’t love seeing videos of people in their 70’s, 80’s or even 90’s still deadlifting/squatting or even raising their grandkids in the air pain free? How about the strong mom in the grocery store with their child by the hand or in their arms and the suitcase (or farmers carry) with the 15-30 lbs of groceries in the other? The next time that friend or family member tells you they’re trying to drop body fat and only doing cardio…remind them that muscle burns more energy at rest, making body composition easier to manage (wolfe, 2006). Lifting builds bone density and reduces the risk of osteoporosis (zhao et. al., 2015)
Hot Yoga can be classified under ‘3 pieces’ of the puzzle. Flexibility/Stretching & Mindset and technically we can add the 3rd piece “conditioning”, since the heart rate is elevated in the heat with movement. It’s the perfect, reset.
Why ‘heat’ in Yoga? The heat helps the muscles relax and increases your range of motion. (Tracy + Hart, 2013) Those single leg and arm movement not only lengthen and stretches tight muscles, but strengthen those tiny stabilizers in our ankles, hips, shoulders & spine.
Mental affect? Studies show Yoga lowers perceived stress and boosts mindfulness. (Hewett et al. 2011)
Conditioning = a foundational puzzle piece. Yes…strong health + better blood flow + healthy lungs = longer life. Let’s think about a healthy heart being the healthy engine in a car. We have power conditioning + light conditioning – it’s great to incorporate both, if able. Power conditioning is where the heart rate is elevated and trains fast twitched muscle fibers. Focusing on speed, endurance and explosion. An example would be sled-pushing, tire flipping, box jumps, jump rope or sprints.
Light conditioning, zones 1 + 2 include walking, brisk walking or a gentle bike ride. Studies recently show that walking for 10 minutes after meals can also help in blood sugar regulation and digestions. Besides, what’s better than 60-70 degree fall weather in Durham, NC and getting an outdoor walk?
The Power Trio (strength training, hot yoga & conditioning) together creates a cycle of growth, balance, and sustainability. You don’t burn-out, you build-up. You don’t just get healthier, you move better, recover faster & live stronger.
Health isn’t just about what happens in our workouts… it’s about what you can sustain for a lifetime. Are YOU Game?
